Hey Toni,

I read on the blog that Thomas has gone from Kautokeino to Abisko. I'm also planning for this, how has he traveled? By bus or?

Kind regards,

Gert

Hallo Gert,
Yes Thomas tried to hike the E1 from Kautokeino for three days but eventually had to turn back as it was once again snowed under and flooded he even tried an alternative route but to no avail, there was no way through. He then trecked back to Kautokeino and headed for Abisko by road. Apparently he set off on foot but was helped along some of the way by locals. He landed in Abisko with blistered feet and rested for a couple of days. On his stay there he was advised by a local guide not to take the E1 under any circumstances as it's still snowed under in parts as well as being under water. The guide advised him to hike down the "Kungsleden" (The King's Trail) it runs parallel to the E1 but further to the east, is 400 kms long and is maintained in good condition by local authorities. That should take him about two to three weeks depending on the weather. All being well he should be able to rejoin the E1 further south. We haven't heard anything more for a couple of days. Telecommunication aint easy up there in the wasteland. Should you intend taking the same route don't forget your moskito repellent. They're very partial to the fresh young blood of a lonely wanderer.
Hike safe, Gruss aus der Kraichgau, Tony
